Get ready to laugh Watford City! Comedy Cafe is once again coming to the WCHS Performing Arts Center on Friday, October 11, 2024. Doors open at 6:30 and the event begins at 7pm. We are excited about our comedians this year and as always will offer a desert reception after the event.
Comedian Bob Smiley has been doing standup for over 25 years all over the United States and Arkansas. He’s written 4 books for Focus on the Family under the series he created called “The Adventures of Average Boy”. The books, as well as “The Average Boy Podcast” are aimed at making kids laugh while encouraging them to be the best God created them to be. Bob is also very good at mowing and has a massive hotel shampoo collection. I was visiting with Pastor Shaun from CrossPoint and he said, “No way! You have Bob Smiley at Comedy Cafe this year?” He remembered him from a tour with widely known comedian, Tim Hawkins, who we cannot afford to bring to our event. So apparently, Bob Smiley is the next best thing, according to Pastor Shaun!
I met our opener, Kevin Burckhard, through his wife, Paula, who comes to Watford from Minot every two weeks to help people establish medical insurance. She and Kevin also happen to be Mr. & Mrs. Clause, which was truly surprising. They visited our Toy Mall event in 2022 and delighted over 100 children in the civic center that year. Spend 5 minutes with Kevin and you will find yourself grinning from ear to ear and might even learn a thing or two about Jesus in the conversation. LongX Arts is once again partnering with BORM for this event and is sponsoring Kevin’s appearance at Comedy Cafe. Watford City Concert Series member tickets are accepted so there’s no need to purchase a separate BORM Comedy Cafe ticket if you are already a LongX Arts Member.
We decided to do something very special this year with our ticket pricing! We will be offering a 25% discount on Comedy Cafe tickets to all who work in service organizations in McKenzie County: veterans, pastors, teachers, hospital workers, day care workers, first responders, city & county employees, etc. Please call or text 701-339-6188 or email director@oilrushministry.com if you are in one of these categories and I will give you the code to enter for the discount at checkout.
We also offer a really low group rate if you have 10 or more who would like to purchase tickets together. Contact callie@oilrushministry.com for more information.
Finally, we are still looking for local companies to sponsor this event! Tickets generally cover the cost of bringing in the talent, but funds raised through sponsorship and donations the night of the event go directly to fund our programming throughout the year. Please consider funding the work we do in the community sponsoring Comedy Cafe HERE.
